A week following the desecration and theft at a Chapel in the Diocese of Orihuela-Alicante in Spain, the Culprits have sacramentally confessed and returned the stolen sacred items.
Bishop José Ignacio Munilla of the diocese shared this development during his "Sixth Continent" program on Radio MarÃa Spain, expressing gratitude for the efficacy of the prayers requested the previous week.
"We asked for the gift of conversion for those who had committed that sacrilege, and today I am going to give you good news. The prayers have been heard, and those who perpetrated this sacrilegious theft have repented and confessed," he explained.
The bishop noted that the individuals who desecrated the chapel "have returned everything stolen," and he emphasized that the Church would preserve the identities of the repentant under the sacramental seal.
"Now that the Lord has touched hearts, we can only say: Glory to God!" Munilla added, underscoring that "the true solution is repentance, it’s returning to the will of God."
The incident occurred at Quirón Hospital in Torrevieja (a town in the province of Alicante) on Sunday, Nov. 5, where the thieves took the Tabernacle with the Eucharist, an Altar Crucifix, a Chalice, a Chasuble, a Corporal, and a liturgical Book, according to the chaplain, Father Javier Vicens.
In response, the diocese issued a statement highlighting the severity of the profanation of the holy Eucharist and called for acts of reparation from parishes, religious communities, and the faithful at large.
The diocese stressed that beyond the theft of material objects, the most serious offense was "committing a sacrilege against the Eucharist." Consequently, all celebrations in the hospital chapel were suspended until the bishop could perform an act of reparation and redress for the incident.
