Rev. Fr. Modestus Ngwu OP.

New provincial for the order of Preachers of the Province of St. Joseph the worker (Nigeria & Ghana)


Fr. Modestus Ngwu, OP, is the newly elected Prior Provincial of the Province of St. Joseph the worker (Nigeria & Ghana).

He was born on July 18, 1970 into the family of Late Mr. Callistus Ani-Ngwu. He made profession of simple vows on August 28, 1995 and made profession of Solemn Vows on August 26, 2000. He was ordained priest on September 11, 2004.

Fr. Modestus Ngwu was canonically elected Prior Provincial on July 27, 2021 by the capitulars of the ongoing 7th Elective Chapter of the Province in Ibadan. As is traditional within the Dominican Order, he had to wait for the confirmation of the Master of the Order in Rome. Upon confirmation by the Master of the Order, Fr. Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP, Fr. Modestus accepted the election and took the Oath of Office before the brothers.

Before his election as Prior Provincial, he has been working in the Diocese of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania USA since 2016. Before then, he worked in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada for seven years.
