Let us pray for the repose of the Soul of these two Priests, Rev. Fr. Maxim Furtado (74) and Rev. Fr. John D'Souza (73), both of whom were incidentally ordained the same day and died in an Auto Crash.
These duo were living at Vianney Home for retired Priests.
Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis, Rector of St. Joseph Seminary, Jeppu, who was driving the Jeep, sustained minor injuries and was admitted to Hospital, where he was said to be recuperating.
According to Catholic News World, they were going to concelebrate the birthday Thanksgiving mass of the Parish Priest of the Kulur Church, Rev. Fr. Harold D'Souza, when a speeding bullet Tanker hit their Jeep from behind near Kottara Chowki. They were rushed to different Hospitals, where Rev. Fr. Maxim and Rev. Fr. John were declared dead.
Rev. Fr. Maxim E. Furtado, from Madanthyar, was born on November 19, 1941. He served at Thottam, Kota, Byndoor, Olavinahalli and other parishes. He retired from his service a year back and started staying at Vianney Home from last year.
Rev. Fr. John D'Souza, from Kinnigoli, was born on April 22, 1942. He served at Urwa, Angelore and Siddakatte and worked as professor at Jeppu seminary. He retired two years back and came to Vianney Home for his post-retirement life. During his tenure new church building at Urwa was built.
Incidentally, the deceased Priests who died in the tragic accident were ordained on the same day, September 27, 1967.
The Bishop of the Diocese of Mangaluru, Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D'Souza, paid a visit to the Hospital as soon as he heard the news. Many more people, including MLA J R Lobo and Priests also visited the Hospital.
Their funeral was held on Wednesday, November 3, 2015, by 3:30pm at the Valencia Church.
